James M.K. Stone

Associate

James Mauliola Keaka Stone, III is an associate in the firm’s litigation department.  His areas of practice include complex civil litigation, insurance defense, labor and employment law, and commercial litigation.

James received his law degree from the University of Hawaii, William S. Richardson School of Law (“Richardson”).  During law school, he served as Co-Captain of the Native American Moot Court Team and as a Student Ambassador for Richardson.  He received the CALI Excellence for the Future Award for achieving the highest grade in four classes.  While in law school, James served as a judicial extern to Chief Justice Mark E. Recktenwald and Associate Justice Sabrina S. McKenna of the Hawaii Supreme Court.  While at Richardson, he also served as a Teaching Assistant, where he tutored first-year law students in Civil Procedure.  James is a proud Ulu Lehua Scholar.

An alumnus of Saint Louis School, James received his Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Hawaii at Manoa.  Prior to attending law school, James worked at the Hawaii State House of Representatives for Speaker of the House Scott K. Saiki.

The firm hired James as a summer associate in 2022 before he started as an associate in 2023.
